“I'm not sure what I can write that I haven't written before. These are easily among the greatest dry Rieslings made in Germany from one of its most elite terroirs. In one way, it's just that simple. It's absurd to me to me how many serious, serious, German wine dorks I talk to who, when asked who they think is making the best dry Rieslings in Germany, say, without hesitation, "Emrich-Schönleber." Just as absurd is the number of tastings I've done - blind and not blind - where a Schönleber GG just wipes the table with everything else. And most of the people at the table, who know German wine, are not in the least bit surprised. All this is curious because, as you know, while the wines have a good market in the U.S., they do not fly off the shelf in the way that, for example, Keller does. They require some attention, some love, some work. But I guess that's what we're here for? As with the wines themselves, Schönleber's market presence is subtle, restrained, austere. We are the ones who must yell a bit. Please join us in digging deep for one of the greats. This is the earlier picking/younger-vine selection from the Grand Cru Frühlingsplätzchen. For those of you twisted enough to understand German wine law and the VDP, this would be the estate’s “Spätlese Trocken” if they were allowed to label it as such.
As with the Grand Cru, the wine is delicate, finessed, very mineral and herbal – it drinks perhaps younger than the denser wines of the Halenberg. It is also not a wine to underestimate. This is a wine that one can cellar and with 5-10+ years it shows the depth of its material.

The 2024 Riesling Frühtau trocken was made from younger vines in the Frühlingsplätzchen from parcels on slightly deeper soils. A notion of wet stone blends in with juicy white fruit and pale plum notes. A creamier aspect adds even more allure. The palate is super light but smooth, creamy and tender, carrying its bright ripeness through the long, fresh finish.

Complex and expressive, but also packed with a wide spectrum of citrus fruit and just a touch of papayas. This emphatically dry Nahe riesling is concentrated and focused, with terrific stony and dried herb complexity in the long, compact finish.
