Turning Point Description
Turning Point, a curated selection of wine from the Sonoma Valley, is a collaboration between winemaker Nick Goldschmidt and Vineyard Brands. The name refers to the constant change, season to season, that happens and are necessary to crafting a wine, from the vines to the finished product. There are three wines available: a Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley, a Red Blend from the Alexander Valley and a Cabernet Sauvignon also from the Alexander Valley.
The LONE TREE vineyard is a three-acre east-facing parcel in the Alexander Valley just north of Geyserville, sitting at 800 ft. The site avoids hot afternoon temperatures and is cooler than valley floor sites, creating a slow ripening pace. The longer hangtime translates to more complexity and depth. Dry farming and cane pruning are critical techniques that achieve smaller berries, less dense clusters, an open canopy and even ripening.
Overall An amazingly dark and intense wine.
Aromas Blackberries, plum, vanilla and blueberries.
Mouthfeel Very lush and velvety with a lingering finish.
Tasting Notes These small berries have high skin to pulp ratio meaning the wine has more black fruit and richer tannins than normal Alexander Valley Cabernets. Combined with longer extraction we can create this amazingly dark and intense wine. On the nose, aromas of vanilla and blueberry fruit. The palate follows with well integrated blackberries and plum. Very lush and velvety with a lingering finish. Drink now and over the next 15 years.
