Thorne and Daughters Description
Thorne and Daughters Wines was started in 2012 by John and Tasha Seccombe to produce authentic wines in the beautiful Western Cape where we have made our home. It has been a long journey that has taken us around the world and brought us back here to where we first met. We love the Cape, and we want to taste this air and this sunshine in our wines.
To produce our wines we’ve drawn on the great history of wine growing here in South Africa, putting together old vineyard parcels with new grape varieties, and making wines with old school simplicity and a modern ‘edge’. Our approach to wine making is simple, honest and gentle, and we are looking to make wines that tell a story of the Cape of Good Hope.
In the middle of 2016 we commissioned a writer friend to write a series of short children’s stories, and we used these stories as the inspiration for the names for our red wines.
The 2022 Wanderer’s Heart is our signature Cape Red – a wine that is built around various incredible vineyards found all over the Western Cape. The wine is focused, with blackberry, black forest cake and crushed gravel on the nose. The tannins are fine -grained and integrated into a savoury palate of black olive brine, white pepper and wild strawberries.
Syrah – 45% Breedekloof (8 years old) and Bot River (16 years old) - shale soils
Grenache noir – 33% Breedekloof (8 years old) - shale soils
Carignan - 13% Breedekloof (8 years old) - shale soils
Mourvèdre – 9% Bot River (17 years old) – gravel/clay duplex soil
