Vineyards / The grapes for Estate Chardonnay 2021 were harvested between February 15 and March 2, 2021 from Te Mata Estate’s own vineyards in the Woodthorpe Terraces, Bridge Pa Triangle and Havelock Hills sub-regions of Hawke’s Bay. Winemaking / Estate Chardonnay 2021 combines the best of traditional and modern winemaking. This involved tank fermentation to preserve the vibrant varietal aromas and clear, fresh fruit expression along with some barrel fermentation, barrel maturation on gross lees and malolactic fermentation to enhance the complexity, richness and integration. Tasting Notes / Palest gold, Estate Chardonnay 2021 immediately shines, with the scents of ripe grapefruit, lemon, white peach, pineapple and freshly baked sourdough all jumping from the glass. Delivering taut acidity and fruitbrightness alongside savory notes of roast cashew, nougat, cinnamon and sea salt, this is classical Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay with an intensity and complexity all its own.
