Otu Description
Named for the ancient Otu̅whero river that runs through our estate, OTU Sauvignon Blanc amplifies all that the Awatere terroir holds true – a backbone of minerality and crisp acidity with aromas of tomato leaf and intense tropical fruit on the palate. Wilder, drier, cooler and windier than Marlborough’s main valley, the Awatere’s hilly, rough coastal terrain conspires to produce distinctive, intensely vibrant wines.
Our estate sits just 2km inland from the wild, windy and sun-soaked coastline of Marlborough New Zealand deep in the Awatere Valley.
This exposed coastal terroir in the Awatere Valley is cooler, windier and drier than the main Wairau Valley of Marlborough. This wild terroir naturally de-vigours the vines resulting in low yields of small, intensely flavoured berries which deliver vibrant, zesty and distinctive wines.
OTU’s wine style is all about letting the wine speak truly of the land where it is grown, with minimal intervention.
100% Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Estate-grown on our finest alluvial, sunny-facing Marlborough, New Zealand slopes, followed by 3 weeks of fermentation then racked and kept on light lees for three months to develop superb textural characters. This depth is known as the hallmark of OTU’s signature Sauvignon Blanc – the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Where the ancient Otuwhero river runs through the lower Awatere Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand. This excellent New Zealand wine is a true homage to its surroundings – bold and intensely vibrant. Marlborough, New Zealand experienced the optimal moderate rainfall and a late summer, enabling the most sought-after ripe flavors and refreshing acidity.
Tasting Note: Aromas of passionfruit, lime zest and white nectarine with subtle musky complexity. Flavors of gooseberry, passionfruit and classic citrus notes, with a long and succulent finish. Fresh, edgy and intensely aromatic. The palate is lively and vibrant leading to a mouth-watering crisp finish.
