Hirsch Vineyards Description
Perched on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Fort Ross, Hirsch Vineyards is the birth ground of great pinot noir on the extreme Sonoma Coast. David Hirsch founded the vineyard in 1980 to grow fruit and make site-specific wine. From the start all efforts have been on the growing of fruit that makes wines profoundly characteristic of the site vintage after vintage.
With less than 4 acres of Chardonnay vines on our estate, production is very limited, and is the only white wine produced at Hirsch.
Tasting Note: The 2023 Estate Chardonnay is an electric and mouthwatering wine, with notable acidity and minerality. Upon opening, the nose is generous yet refined, with subtle notes of brioche, Fuji apples, Meyer lemon and a hint of saline. The palate leans Old World, with a focused mid palate and persistent finish. This is an incredibly classy wine, with fabulous mouthfeel and energy.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2023 Chardonnay Estate is laced with hints of tangerine oil, chamomile, citrus confit and white truffle. Like so many wines in this vintage, the Chardonnay is delicate and gracious. The 2023 is more understated than in some recent years, but it's classy and polished just the same.
