Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair - Nuits-St-Georges 1er Les St Georges 2019 (750ml)

Located in the southern part of the appellation, Les Saint-Georges is considered one of the oldest climats. It was already planted in the year 1000 AD. At the end of the 19th century, Nuits was authorized to add to its name that of the famous cru of "Saint-Georges". These old vines are planted on a brown, limestone soil, which is deep and very stony. This gives rich and structured wines, built for aging. A project to reclassify this terroir as a Grand Cru has been in process since 2007.

Sourced from a huge 2.10 ha parcel planted in 1944; 40% whole clusters

A brooding nose displays notes of both red and dark berries, game, newly turned earth and a whiff of anise character. There is very good underlying tension to the sleek, detailed and tautly muscular flavors that also conclude in a decidedly austere, compact and mildly warm finish. This powerful and vaguely rustic effort will also require ample patience to arrive at its full maturity. Excellent.
