Domaine Robert Chevillon Description

The track record of the Chevillon wines in the cellar is one of the most remarkable aspects of this storied domaine.  We regularly have the good fortune to taste back through the past three decades of vintages of all the various premier crus and the wines always more than convincing—they are amongst Burgundy’s very best.  In fact, I have often been more disappointed with grand cru bottlings than I am with the top-tier Chevillon premier crus.  Indeed, Nuits-Saint-Georges does not officially have any grand cru vineyards, but we are convinced that Cailles, Vaucrains and Les Saint-Georges are firmly grand cru quality.  This decision is currently in the hands of the appellation authorities but it is almost better if the status quo doesn’t change–that way we are assured to get grand cru quality at a premier cru price!

The name Les Perrières originates from one of the original uses of the land, a place where stones could be found, a kind of quarry

Wine Advocate: 92-94 Points

The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières is similarly promising, mingling aromas of wild berries and cassis with notions of licorice, dark chocolate and spices. Medium to full-bodied, bright and chalky, with a tightly wound core, powdery tannins and a long, mineral finish, it's very true to type.

Vinous: 91-93 Points

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Perrières ler Cru has a very intense and almost exotic bouquet of raspberry confit, fig and marmalade scents. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Slightly savory in quality, it delivers a gamy finish; it will be intriguing to see whether this remains after bottling.

Burghound: 91-93 Points

This too is aromatically cool and elegant with its pretty array of slightly more elegant essence of ripe red berry fruit aromas that reflects hints of spice, earth and wood. The succulent but decidedly punchy medium weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the beautifully well-delineated, powerful and serious finale. Patience absolutely required.
