Domaine Rapet Père et Fils Description
The Rapet family estate has a history going back almost three centuries. A treasured "tastevin" (wine-taster) dating from 1765, on which the family name appears, is carefully kept from generation to generation. Vincent, the grandson of Robert and son of Roland, along with his wife, Sylvette, are now hard at work managing the estate.
A great white BURGUNDY wine located in the communes of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. The grape variety is Chardonnay. Our Corton-Charlemagne vineyard is made up of plantations from several different years, ranging from over 50 years old to around ten years old. Regular plantings allow us to combine the power of old vines with the finesse of young plants.
The Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne carries historical memories. Corton is a compound meaning "Otho's court." The type cortis designating enclosure, the farmyard in medieval Latin became the equivalent of the Gallo-Roman villa to designate an estate whose owner originally belonged to the Frankish aristocracy.
Corton-Charlemagne wines have the character of the terroir, the flint, due to their location on the rock. The wines are heady and full-bodied with a beautiful golden color. The fullness is reached after 5 to 10 years in the cellar, revealing its aromatic richness of honey, toasted almonds with exquisite mineral touches.
90% of the fruit comes from En Charlemagne in Pernand with the remainder from Le Charlemagne in Aloxe; the total holding is 3 ha
Wine Pairing: Stunning accompaniment for foie gras, lobster, crayfish, delicate fish, sweetbreads in a cassolette, chicken supremes with morels, mild cheeses, and you can serve the oldest as an aperitif.
Vinous: 95 Points
The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes mainly from the lieu-dit of En Charlemagne and was matured in one-third new oak plus amphora and foudre. What a lovely bouquet! Delineated and fresh with hints of oyster shell and crushed stone, this exudes class. The palate is well balanced with fine weight, a keen line of acidity, hints of apricot and hazelnut and a poised but sustained finish. Bon vin!
Wine Advocate: 95+ Points
Rapet's 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with aromas of peach and pear, mingled with white flowers, wet stones, crushed mint and hazelnut. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with racy acids and a seamless, complete profile. This vintage marks a step up in texture and mid-palate volume for Rapet, and it is well worth seeking out.
Burghound: 91 Points
This is very firmly reduced and while the reduction does not extend to the palate, it's clear that the nose will need extended aeration. Much more interesting are the sappy, powerful and muscular flavors that also display evidence minerality on the long, compact and balanced finale. This is one of those wines that's difficult to rate because while the reduction may dissipate with time, that is a supposition, not a guarantee.
