Domaine Joseph Roty Description
Domaine Joseph Roty boasts one of the largest concentrations of old vines in Burgundy, averaging about 65 years. The domaine is fanatical about old vines, they have some of the oldest in France, the living ambassadors of the affinity the Roty’s so obviously feel for their land. Coupled with late picking, which further concentrates yields and with fermentation below 30 degrees, and a cuvaison of three weeks, the structure and complexity is consequentially remarkable and the winemaking uncompromising in achieving this. With a little age these wines develop wonderful aromatics with the characteristic Pinot Noir flavours of black cherry and stone fruit. The old vine fruit contributes the length of flavour and great complexity.
90% of the blend is from Pinot Blanc!
Burghound: 87 Points
A whiff of exotic fruit is present on the aromas of apple, pear and citrus confit. The rich, succulent and fleshy middle weight flavors conclude in a clean and agreeably dry finish that, like its 2023 counterpart is mildly rustic though more complex. This well-made effort should drink well shortly after release. Worth a look.
Vinous: 86+ Points
The 2022 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc, matured in 15% new oak, doesn't really have the charm of the rosé on the nose. The palate is well balanced with orange pith and passion fruit aromas. The palate is actually much more stimulating with orange zest and citrus peel notes. It's quite lively on the finish. I would give this a year in bottle for the nose to awaken.
