Domaine Gérard Raphet Description
Raphet wines are a Burgundy lover’s Burgundy. While the wine’s color in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavors surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines. Raphet Burgundy is handmade from field to bottle, with a rhythm and method that hasn’t changed in more than four generations. Pinot Noir vines at the estate are on average very old, with many surpassing 100 years.
Located in Gevrey Chambertin, ‘Les Grands Champs’ is a lieu-dit southwest of the village proper and surrounded on three sides by villages-level Gevrey vineyards. Soils are mostly red clay and silt.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of autumn leaves, cinnamon, cloves, red berries. Flavors of pomegranate jam, blood oranges, red cherries.
Wine Paring: Roast pork or chicken; delicately spiced dishes
Burghound: 86-88 Points
A pretty, and very pinot-like, nose reflects notes of mostly red berry and a discreet touch of earth which is picked up by the supple, round a delicious flavors that conclude in a lightly rustic bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. To enjoy young.
