Domaine Edouard et Eleni Vocoret Description
Edouard and Eleni met while working the 2010 harvest in New Zealand. Soon after they were married and on their way back to Chablis to take over a small piece of Edouard's family domaine. Edouard's family owns Domaine Vocoret & Fils, a large and established domaine, with over 50 hectares planted.
Their primary focus with their first 4.9 hectares was applying a more artisanal and sustainable approach to farming. They specialize in making single site “village level” wines — highlighting a single plot with different personalities with same winemaking. Their small holdings allow them to know their vineyards by heart.
Bas de Chapelot comes from a 3.2 hectare parcel just below Montée de Tonnerre. It is the Vocoret's only parcel on the right side of the river bank.
The vines are now 40 years old vines and due to their proximity to the riverbed are very exposed to frost.
Vinous: 92-94 Points
The 2022 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot underwent partial tressage (tressage is A French term that means "braiding". It is a technique that involves rolling and tucking in the shoots of a vine canopy. This can help avoid stressing the plant, improve water management) in the vineyard this year, so the Vocorets could compare. They found the fruit ripened earlier with more intense aromas. These will be bottled separately. It has a lovely peachy, nectarine-tinged bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with touches of grapefruit and white peach. It is very elegant and pure, with a touch of spice towards the finish. Simply a mouthwatering prospect difficult to believe this is not a Premier Cru.
Burghound: 90-92 Points
This also displays an ample amount of mineral reduction on the aromas of brine, algae and white orchard fruit. There is even better density to the sappy and palate soaking medium-bodied flavors that also flash focused power on the stony, moderately austere and beautifully persistent finale. This is also excellent.
Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points
The 2022 Chablis Bas de Chapelot mingles aromas of peach and orange zest with hints of white flowers and nutmeg in an inviting bouquet, followed by a medium to full-bodied, taut and satiny palate, its sweet core of fruit girdled by racy acids.
