Domaine Bruno Clair Description
From a small section of this superlative 1er Cru sized 1.00 ha (2.47 ac) with vines 1/2 planted in 1957, the other half in 1972.
Vinous: 94 Points
The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques ler Cru still has some oak to be subsumed, though it is certainly proportionate with the fruit concentration. Redcurrant, wild strawberry, thyme and crushed stone develop nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid ripe red fruit. Fine tannins, well focused with a slight creaminess towards the finish. This needs just a couple of years in bottle.
Wine Advocate: 92-94 Points
Pure and complete, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques exhibits aromas of sweet red berries, potpourri, blood orange, spices and vine smoke, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and fleshy palate, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet, velvety tannins. This shows terrific potential.
Burghound: 92-94 Points
Here too the expressive nose of the essence of red currant and forest floor is cool, airy and very, very floral in character. I very much like the sophisticated texture of the stony and beautifully delineated middleweight flavors that deliver fine length on the austere, serious and linear bitter pit fruit-inflected finish.
