Domaine Anne Gros Description

Subtle, harmonious, supple—Burgundy from Domaine Anne Gros is intimately tied with the elegant, poised character of wines from VosneRomanée. While each cru faithfully reflects its terroir, it is terroir as translated through Anne’s expert touch, offering richer aromatics, rounder curves, silkier tannins. The combination is irresistible; so much so that Anne’s limited production is snapped up by global collectors faster and faster each vintage. To be sure, Anne Gros is one of the top winemakers in Burgundy today, which explains why her wines inspire such a cult-like following. There have been Gros family members in Vosne since the 1830s; Anne took the reins of her father’s winery (Domaine François Gros) in the late 1980s.

Estate vines are located in the lieu-dit of ‘Le Grand Maupertui,’ located in the southwest-quadrant of Clos Vougeot. Some vines were planted in 1905; average vine age is 60 years. Gently sloped; soils mix clay and limestone.

Tasting Note: Aromas of purple wildflowers, black cherry, plum, blueberry. Medium-bodied; ripe red/black fruits. Light herbs and peppery spice. Structured, fine-grained tannins.

Wine Pairing: Aged local French cheese; charcuterie; pork sausages with herbs

Vinous: 91-93 Points

The 2021 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has an earthier bouquet with touches of wild mint percolating through the transparent red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, velvety smooth, moderate depth though not a complex finish. Yet it is surfeit with charm and like the Echezeaux, will not need an enormous amount of cellaring.

Burghound: 90-93 Points

Like the Echezeaux, a hint of green tea sits atop the earthier and less spicy aromas of various dark berries. The quite supple medium weight flavors possess a relatively refined mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the moderately austere, powerful and solidly complex finish that tightens up noticeably as it sits on the palate.
