Wine Advocate: 96 Points
The old-vines series 2021 Vigno was produced with a field blend of Carignan with 15% other grapes: Malbec, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon from the vineyard La Aguada in Sauzal on granitic alluvial soils. The destemmed grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in neutral barrels for nine months, after which, 85% of the volume was transferred to a 2,500-liter oak foudre to complete a total of 11 months élevage.
Vinous: 93 Points
The 2021 Carignan VIGNO from Sauzal, Maule, was aged for 19 months in old barrels and foudres. Purple with a garnet sheen. The focused nose offers pine resin, ripe sour cherry, cherry liqueur, mint and herbs. In the mouth it's sheer freshness, getting especially juicy at the back of the throat with firm, refined tannins and a long-lasting finish. An intensely ripe, expressive wine to look out for.
