The 2022 Saumur Rouge is bright, juicy and eminently smashable. A blend of three different parcels of sand, clay and limestone, it has immediate "drink-me" appeal, with a ripe, creamy texture and soft tannins coming from the gentlest of maceration (every two days for four minutes). It has an indulgent coulis-like flavor that reminds me of raspberry and blueberries, as well as violets. Drink chilled and enjoy its sheer joy and tenderness. It has freshness and just enough tension, so it'll hold together for up to five years.
