Château Grand Billard Description
The Chignon family has been growing grapes on their vineyards at Château Grand Billard for generations. The Château vineyards are situated in the commune of Couture-sur-Drot in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux between the Dordogne and the Garonne: two rivers influenced by ocean tides that behave like inland seas. Entre-Deux-Mers is one of the oldest wine-producing areas in France, where winemaking goes back to the Ancient Roman period.
The classic blend for Red Bordeaux is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, sometimes with smaller portions of Malbec and Petit Verdot. This is a relatively cool part of Bordeaux, located between both the Garonne and the Dordogne rivers, where the low temperatures are a little higher than average across the region, but the higher temperatures a little lower. It is also one of the most biodiverse regions of Bordeaux, with far less monoculture of vines than you find in areas like the Médoc.
The Chateau Grand Billard wines are a gorgeous expression of the terroir; alluvial soils fed by the two rivers over a subsoil of limestone, and abundant sunshine with cooling breezes. These unpretentious wines from one of the most well-known regions of France definitely punch above their weight, and we can't wait for you to try them!
Tasting Note: The beautiful purple hue of Château Grand Billard is deep & intense. A fine & fruity nose with fragrances of black fruits, cherry, plum. Round and fruity, it is delicious with a beautiful spicy & peppery finish. Perfectly balanced, this very pleasant organic wine ready to drink now.
