Yering Station Description
Yering Station has been core to the Victorian wine story for almost two centuries. Established in 1838 by the pioneering Ryrie brothers, Yering Station was originally a small vineyard and cattle farm. Changing hands between families throughout the centuries that followed, the Rathbone family ultimately purchased the property in 1996 and have since expanded it into a world-class winery and destination.
Hand picked de-stemmed. 2% of Viognier was co-fermented with Shiraz in open fermenters. Hand plunged twice daily, then pressed to barrel. Matured in French oak for 18 months.
Dark red with a crimson hue. Lifted purple florals, dark plum, blackberry fruit and five spice.
Full of beautiful red and dark blue fruits, with an underlay of spice and finely knit tannins that build a velvety mid-palate. Plenty more fruit and spice gently roll along followed by a fresh acidity culminating to a generous, complex finish.Drink until 2032
Wine Spectator: 2023-2033 Points
This sleek and polished red features a core of dark berry and plum flavors, with notes of black pepper, candied violet and oolong tea. Plump and juicy, with firming malty Assam tea flavors providing an appealing finish. Shiraz and Viognier. Drink now through 2033.
James Suckling: 92 Points
A restrained nose, rather than the usual yelp of excessive fruit and sweetness of the idiom. An element of mid-weighted refinement, as a result. Lilac, boysenberry and a skein of peppery freshness, towing some length. In all, a good drink for the opening act. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Vinous: 91 Points
The slick 2021 Shiraz Viognier offers up plush aromas of mulberry and blackberry, with a dusting of spice and fine French oak. Nice tension follows, with gentle tannins and fresh acidity providing a solid base to the flavors of dark cherry, soy sauce and Asian spices, gliding through to a solid finish.
