William Chris Vineyards Description
The first Wanderer Series in 2020 was born out of a desire to give back to our industry and support our community. After partnering with Craig Collins MS and Southern Smoke to provide relief to hospitality workers, Sommelier Ali Schmidt and Feeding Texas to support a network of local food banks, we are this year involving more partners than ever to create a bigger impact. This year, we've partnered with June Rodil and Mark Sayre from Goodnight Hospitality in Houston to support Chef José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and their efforts to build resilient food systems in the wake of crises. The inspired wine, a Mourvèdre-Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is the first of its kind at William Chris, and for this series.
VINTAGE: In 2021 a mass freeze in February and hail in May reduced quantity significantly, yet a cool summer yielded exceptional quality and balance in the remaining grapes.
WINEMAKING: The Moonlight and Alta Loma fruit fermented separately in stainless steel while the other lots fermented in oak foudres. All lots were barrel aged separately for 12 months in 33% new French oak and 77% neutral French oak barrels.
