Val di Suga (Tenimenti Angelini) Description
Established in 1969, Val di Suga is a pioneer in the production of terroir-driven Brunello di Montalcino from single vineyard (CRUs) and the only producer making three different wines from three different estates: Vigna del Lago in the North-East, Poggio al Granchio in the South-East and Vigna Spuntali in the South-West. Val di Suga has always believed in the highest expression of each single vineyard and its terroir. The first Brunello di Montalcino Cru Vigna del Lago was produced in 1982, coinciding with the beginning of the denomination’s success in the early 1980s. A few years later, in 1994, the Angelini company came along and gave Val di Suga new drive, which was already winning awards and recognized on an international level for its high-quality wines.
Val di Suga’s Spuntali vineyard covers 15 hectares at an elevation of 300 meters above sea level. The soils, rich in sands from degraded Pietraforte stone, ensure excellent drainage and promote grape concentration. The vineyard is planted with over 30-year-old vines, which produce grapes with depth and complexity. This combination of altitude, soil, and mature vines creates a perfect microclimate for Sangiovese Grosso, resulting in a wine that beautifully reflects the unique terroir of Montalcino with balance and elegance.
Tasting Note: On the nose, the wine reveals an intense fruit profile: cherry and blackberry alternate with notes of thyme and rosemary, distinctive traits that have always defined it. The palate shows balanced density; the sip is satisfying, deep, and at the same time pleasantly spicy. A Riserva capable of preserving, over time, the story of a great vintage.
