Made from grapes from a century-old vineyard in Vistalba, on the terraces of the Mendoza River, the 2021 Malbec Eolo is aged for 18 months, half in foudre and half in barrels of varying age. A product of the cool 2021 vintage, it reveals complex notes of graphite, fresh plum, violet, camphor and bay leaf. Soft, velvety and intensely flavorful, its juicy flow, fine texture and precise élevage combine to create a Malbec full of nuance and depth. I have followed this cuvée since its first vintage and have no doubt that this is the best edition yet. Whether due to the cool vintage aligning with the house style or the precision in execution, the 2021 should be a benchmark for Vistalba wines in particular, and Luján de Cuyo in general.
