Trapiche - 'Iscay' Malbec & Cabernet Franc 2021 (750ml)
Trapiche Description
Since 1883, Trapiche has been driven by an exploratory spirit that continues to guide every step. We believe in the land as our most valuable resource and in innovation as a tool for discovering new horizons. This vision, which combines sensitivity and technology, motivates us to challenge boundaries and reinterpret what we know about Argentine wine.
Our journey of exploration has led us to become one of Argentina's most internationally recognized wineries. We have been distinguished by WRW&S as "The Most Awarded Argentine Winery in the World" for the fourth consecutive year and chosen by Drinks International as one of the "50 Most Admired Wine Brands," being the only winery in the country to achieve five nominations.
In 2019, Wine Enthusiast named us “Best Winery in the New World” and we recently reached #4 in Forbes’ Top 50 Wineries, reaffirming our constant pursuit of excellence.
Iscay represents the union of two components: viticulture, as the interaction between terroir and vine; and oenology, a combination of science and art. This wine was created by Marcelo Belmonte, an agronomist, along with Daniel Pi and Sergio Casé, winemaker at Trapiche, who together gave rise to this exceptional Argentine wine, an icon of Trapiche. It is a blend made from two grape varieties to obtain the best possible combination and thus achieve the most select wine.
Tasting Note: Deep purple in color, this wine combines aromas of violets, ripe red fruits, subtle spicy notes, and generous tannins. The Malbec and Cabernet Franc blend perfectly, resulting in an elegant wine with a clear finish.
James Suckling: 98 Points
Profound yet fresh nose with a flowery and peppery lift from the blackberries, chiles, chocolate and mountain herbs. Fresh, fine tannins spread across the palate with juicy fruit and a very long, expressive finish. Tannins are tight but grainy and polished.
Vinous: 97 Points
The 2021 Malbec-Cabernet Franc Iscay comes from Uco Valley. It opens with thyme, fine oak, black fruit, ash, caramel and balsamic hints, offering plenty of aromatic intensity and complexity. Fluid and delicately textured, the palate shows energy and depth, with chalky structure and nuanced flavor. This is a high-intensity 2021 with both varietal and barrel-driven layers, finishing on a Bordeaux-inspired note.
