Wine Advocate: 95 Points
The 2017 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Cramant Les Robarts, disgorged in June 2023 with a dosage of three grams per liter, is more brooding and darker in profile, offering aromas of beeswax, dried white flowers and orange peel mingled with rye bread and a faint hint of youthful reduction. On the palate, it is full-bodied and hugely concentrated, layered and expansive, built around a deep core of fruit and concluding in a resonant, chalky finish. Suenen recalls 2017 as a difficult vintage in which to ripen grapes properly, with fruit harvested at 10.8% potential alcohol (reaching 12.2% after the second fermentation)—a challenge he would not encounter again in 2018 and certainly not in 2019.
