2019 Savage Red
HISTORY
Duncan Savage introduced his own label in 2011 with a goal to
produce rock-solid, classic and elegant wines. Duncan sources
grapes for Savage wines from maritime and high altitude sites
around the Western Cape in South Africa. These small, hand-
selected parcels receive a lot of love and attention throughout
the growing season. Each vineyard’s unique terroir contributes
in its own special way to the blends.
Always released a year behind the rest of the Savage range, this
2019 is a dense, dark, potent red from a powerful, concentrat-
ed, minerally focused vintage.
VINIFICATION
Syrah exclusively sourced in Stellenbosch from vineyards, or-
ganically grown on decomposed granite soils. 70% of whole-
clusters used in the fermentation, the palate shows pronounced
chalky mineral tannins with vibrantly fresh crunchy acids from
the granitic soils.
TASTING NOTES
Intense notes of earthy red and blackberry fruits, inky saline-
notes of black cherries, pink musk, savory cured meat nuances,
black olives and a sappy cedar wood spice complexity.
