Only 4 barrels made, specific rows at the highest points in the vineyards are selected for their Reserve range of wines, which shows off what Remhoogte can do with their best fruit. Sat on decomposed Table Mountain soils, the vines have perfect conditions of exposed sunlight with a prevailing ocean breeze to keep them cool.
Single vineyard Syrah/Shiraz at it’s best, it is an intense and perfect example of this grape. Long, and complex, it is initially atypical Syrah “pepper bomb” in the mouth, but develops into a backbone of blackberry with overtones of liquorice; think of sweet black fruits with a touch of savoury white pepper. The tannins are very fine and well integrated, finishing the concentrated journey with a long-lasting, refreshing acidity.
This is wine to be savoured now, but will also age 5-10 years easily, and beyond. It will also benefit from at least 30 minutes of breathing (or decanting) when opening
Remhoogte Description
Produced form a north facing vineyard high on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch. Whole bunches are fermented by natural yeasts before maturation for 24 months in French oak barriques, after which the best are selected for this wine. The wine has a sweet fruited entry with broad, plush tannins .The fresh acidity and a savoury liquorish spice give it a deliciously, lingering finish.
