Our historic blend of the Hudson and Hyde vineyards shows the classic tangerine oil and crème brûlée richness of aroma over intense marzipan and nectarine flavors. The palate is broad, but still well mannered. The finish is long and positively saline.
The Kongsgaard family has owned the parcel of land that produces this amazingly dense and concentrated Chardonnay since the 1920s. The vineyard sits atop a rocky hill in southeast Napa where the vines must struggle to obtain nutrients. John Kongsgaard ferments in old oak using indigenous yeasts.
Kongsgaard Description
Since the 1996 inaugural vintage, the Chardonay has been primarily sourced from the Carneros growers Lee Hudson and Larry Hyde. Beginning in 2020 we have been privileged to include fruit from the spectacular Coombsville vineyard planted by Warren Winiarski. In line with the previous bottlings, the wine is defined tension of mineral energy and opulence, honoring its Burgundian antecedents.
Our intensely farmed, shy-bearing vineyards and our archaic, low-intervention winemaking produce powerful, graceful wines–vivid expressions of vineyard and variety.
