Gunderloch Description
Niersteiner Hipping is Gunderloch’s smallest grand cru, sourced from an extremely steep portion of the vineyard. Spontaneously fermented, barrel-aged, and picked at punishingly low yields. The nose is typical Roter Hang: herbal, stony, savory, sunny, but ups the ante in 2021 with exotic florals like lilacs and jasmine tea. It is intense and really exciting! Firm and straight in the mouth, locked in by its grid of acids, structured like sculpted stone. An archetype of Hipping; you could teach a class with this wine.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
Vinified in oak and stainless steel, the 2021 Hipping Riesling trocken GG offers a pure, refined and flinty/stony bouquet with ripe, bright, elegant and lush fruit. Intense, round and very elegant on the palate, this is a pretty lush yet crystalline and saline Hipping that is still quite grippy and slightly dryish on the finish.
This wine should either be aerated or cellared for at least five or six years.
12.5% stated alcohol.
