Dutton-Goldfield Description
Dutton-Goldfield started sourcing fruit from the Annapolis area of the Sonoma Coast in 2013 and have enjoyed the fruits of our labor ever since. Putnam Vineyard is a family-owned and operated vineyard nestled on the Sonoma Coast, about six miles from the ocean. With a cool climate and high annual rainfall, the growing season is long and grape maturation slow. The 32-acre vineyard sits just above the fog line among giant redwoods native to the area. The gravelly soil and deficit irrigation create stressed, naturally low-yielding vines, which produce thick-skinned fruit, small berries, and concentrated flavors. The wines from the area have beautifully developed tannins and a soft, plush texture.
Tasting Note: Aromas of black cherry, wild berry compote, and earthy forest floor, accented by notes of juniper and damp redwood on a wet foggy morning. The palate delivers waves of rich, jammy fruit—dark cherry and ripe berries—balanced by lively acidity that keeps the wine lifted and bright. Subtle notes of baking spice and black tea unfurl on the finish, carried by fine yet chewy tannins that add depth and structure.
Wine Pairing: This wine’s bold, savory character pairs beautifully with richly layered dishes. Try it with crostini topped with cherry-black pepper jam and Mt. Tam cheese, or juniper-rubbed chicken thighs finished with a warm berry sauce. For something heartier, a slow-cooked pork shoulder ragu with cherry tomatoes and herbs over creamy polenta is an ideal match.
