Domaine Robert Chevillon Description

Before the land was cultivated with vines, it was full of brambles or ronces.

From a 1.5 ha parcel

Vinous: 92-94 Points

The 2018 Nuit Saint-Georges Les Roncières ler Cru comes from a one-hectare parcel of around 60-year-old vines. It has a clean, precise bouquet of blackberry, briar, crushed rocks and light marine scents (oyster shell and crustacean), understated and quite reserved for this domaine. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy black fruit, displaying more sapidity than Les Bousselottes and fanning out gently toward the finish. This feels quite approachable in style thanks to its silky finish. Touches of hoisin and truffle emerge on the aftertaste. Excellent.

Wine Advocate: 91-93+ Points

A touch more introverted than the exuberant Chaignots and Bousselots, the 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Roncières unwinds in the glass with notes of blackberries, cassis, sweet soil tones and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, rich and structured, this is a serious, muscular Nuits, with tannin and concentration to burn, but it's very promising.

Burghound: 89-92 Points

This is at once very fresh and very ripe with its liqueur-like aromas of plum, dark currant and plenty of gamy nuances. This a huge wine with incredible density and power where the abundant dry extract coats the palate and, like the Les St. Georges, partially buffers the extremely firm tannic spine shaping the quite chewy, short and mildly warm bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. I very much like the impressive complexity but the balance, particularly on the finish, isn't at its usual level. This may well age out successfully but make no mistake, it will require the better part of 20 years before we will know for sure.
