Domaine Michel Lafarge Description

Sourced from a mix of vines that average about 40 years of age in the Crus of Brouillard, Buttes, Famines, Pasquiers and Cros Martin

Vinous: 89-91 Points

The 2020 Volnay Village is completely aged in used barrel. It has a transparent nose with lifted red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit with an underlying tertiary scent. The palate is more expressive than the aromatics with juicy ripe tart red cherries, quite citric in style with orange rind and a touch of bitter lemon enlivening the finish. This should drink well for up to 15 years, possibly more.

Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points

The 2020 Volnay Village opens in the glass with notes of plums and sweet red berries mingled with peonies and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, deep and perfumed, with lively acids and powdery, melting tannins, it's beautifully vibrant and refined.

Burghound: 89-92 Points

A slightly more deeply pitched nose combines notes of both red and dark currant along with an abundance of warm earth, humus and underbrush nuances. The sleek, intense and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors possess fine underlying tension on the chalky, youthfully austere and firm finale that delivers excellent length. Fine quality here.

Readers may recall that I could scarcely have been more enthusiastic about the Lafarge 2019s but the quality of their 2020s is just as good if not better. If you can find them, don't hesitate as they are, almost across the board, stunning.
