Domaine Louis Michel & Fils Description
From a single parcel of 60+ year old vines
Wine Advocate: 91+ Points
Issuing from clay parcels rich with fossils, Michel’s 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux exhibits aromas of peach, tangerine zest and dried white flowers. More youthfully introverted than Forêts, it is medium to full-bodied, built around a spine of racy acidity and with ample structuring extract, concluding with a saline finish.
Vinous: 89-91 Points
The 2023 Chablis Butteaux Vieilles Vignes ler Cru comes from a single parcel of 65-year-old vines. It undergoes a year longer élevage than the regular cuvée. It has a lifted bouquet of citrus fruit, wild heather and orange rind. The palate displays good concentration and intensity. The brick finish just needs more persistency.
Burghound: 89-92 Points
This is quite firmly reduced and revealing nothing today. Otherwise, the delicious middle weight plus flavors possess better volume and more evident power on the sappy, lingering and well-balanced finale. I wouldn't describe this as racy but I really like the mouthfeel thanks to the sappy dry extract provided by the old vines.
