Domaine Guillot-Broux Description

If you are a fan of Bernard-Bonin then this is a wine for you as the two families have spent much time together, influencing one another... Guillot-Broux owns 17ha across three villages and two appellations, mostly sited on clay-limestone soils and planted at a high density to encourage quality fruit. The domaine has been certified organic since 1991. It shows soft, peppery apple fruit flavours, with some woody creaminess towards the back. The black pepper spice really lingers on the finish.

Technical: The parcel was left out of reclassification for vine-growing land in 1935 and had been unused since phylloxera; it was finally replanted in 1983 and is contiguous with Les Combettes. The vineyard size used is 2.7 hectares with 9,000 plants per hectare planted on clay-limestone soils on steep slopes.

Vinous: 91+ Points

Bright light yellow. Complex nose melds white peach, pear, lemon drop, menthol and crushed stone. A captivating tactile, citrussy midweight with a strong crushed-stone quality and notes of lemon and underripe pineapple. Not a fleshy wine but quite chalky and penetrating. Finishes very dry, salty and youthfully austere, with an impression of firm acidity and resounding minerality. Serious juice! By next summer, my score may prove to be overly conservative. Like the Perrières, this vineyard features active calcaire.

Wine Advocate: 90 Points

Notes of pastry cream, vanilla pod, ripe pear and spring flowers introduce the 2016 Mâcon-Cruzille Les Geniévrières, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated wine with excellent mid-palate depth and tangy balancing acidity. This sees 10% new wood from Tonnellerie Mercurey, which does mark it a little right now, but Guillot convinces me that this integrates to imperceptibility with a few years of bottle age.
