Domaine Emile Beyer Description
The firm of Emile Beyer is under the guidance of Christian Beyer, who represents the 14th generation of the Beyer Family of wine growers in the charming village of Eguisheim together with his wife Valérie. Located just outside of Colmar, Eguisheim is the birthplace of viticulture in Alsace and is a village dear to the hearts of wine lovers. The vineyards benefit from a wealth of diverse terroirs including limestone, sandstone, chalky marl and clay. Combined with the unique microclimate, the vines can reach their highest potential. The experience that Emile Beyer has acquired over generations enables the Domaine to classify its wines by the grape varietal and also by quality, according to the location of the vines. Each different category must meet the Domaine’s rigorous quality standards and expectations in order to bear the Emile Beyer label.
Tasting Notes: Pale yellow with green-gold highlights. Aromas of yellow fruits – peaches, apricots, pears – with mineral notes. Full-bodied on the palate with a distinct freshness. The long finish offers a fine balance of ripeness and crisp, refreshing acidity.
Wine Pairing: A gastronomic wine that complements modern or traditional cuisine, “Mosaique” can accompany a variety of dishes from sushi to a salad of langoustines, to delicate fish in a beurre blanc sauce, to roast poultry and game birds or even a mushroom risotto.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
Blending different soils as well as grape varieties and aged on the lees for seven months, the 2022 Eguisheim Mosaïque shows an intense and quite substantial nose of ripe, white fruits paired with spicy terroir notes. Medium-bodied and fresh on the first palate, this is a remarkably dense and intense assemblage of Pinot Gris and Riesling that reveals a serious and persistent structure. This is an impressive Eguisheimer based on young and also older vines from the village's grand crus.
Vinous: 91 Points
The 2022 Eguisheim Mosaïque is a blend of half Riesling and half Pinot Gris, mostly grown on limestone with some sandstone. The nose is a little shy. The palate, however, is what you get when you take the best of both worlds: there is Pinot Gris' pear-fruited roundness, recalling juicy, yellow Comice pear, complemented by Riesling's inherent brightness and freshness. Beautifully smooth and bone-dry, with just a touch of a phenolic edge and butter on the finish. The 2022 is a well-met blend that will confuse but then delight Alsace fans. This is a lovely wine with a spring in its step. (Bone-Dry)
