Domaine Antoine Jobard Description
This is as classy and as consistent a property as you’ll find in Burgundy, and theirs are generally counted among the best Meursaults. Other respected vignerons like Coche and Raveneau hold these wines in the highest esteem and are generous with their praise when Jobard comes up in conversation.
All the Jobard wines are aged in barrel and spend a lengthy period of time sur lie in their cellars in Meursault. They are the last of our white Burgundies to come to the market every year due to their unhurried approach to vinification and typically slow malolactic fermentations. In their youth, these wines are often tightly wound with an intense mineral structure that only begins to soften with extended bottle aging. Though François and Antoine work side by side, Antoine has brought his own signature to the domaine: a more sensuous approachability to the wines, all delicious and ready to drink immediately. That said, the Jobard legacy lives on, and the wines will still explode with intense aromas of honeycomb and stone later in life. If you just can’t wait, there’s no reason not to uncork.
Starting with the 2020 vintage, the Meursault bottling blends lieux-dits Les Chaumes de Narvaux, Sous La Velle, Les Corbins, En La Barre, Tillets, Meix Tavaux and Pré de Manche. Prior to that, it was comprised of only Les Corbins, Les Chaumes des Perrières, and Sous la Velle.
Vine planting range from 1960-1999
Vinous: 90-92 Points
The 2023 Meursault Village, a blend of seven lieux-dits, has a crisp and focused bouquet with fine mineralité and light mossy/undergrowth scents that emerge with time. The palate is very well balanced with a slightly tangy entry. There is plenty of energy here, remaining focused and poised with touches of apricot and peach skin toward the finish. This will be a very pretty Meursault Village, just like the 2022.
Burghound: 89-92 Points
Here too there is a whiff of the exotic lurking in the background of the aromas of jasmine tea, white flower and passion fruit. The very generously proportioned flavors are rich to the point of opulence with a highly seductive mouthfeel before tightening up on the impressively long, balanced and complex finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages that is warmly recommended plus it should age gracefully.
