Naoko Dalla Valle and her late husband, Gustav, an Italian-born diving equipment entrepreneur, arrived in Napa Valley in the early 1980s drawn by the original dream to create a hotel and restaurant that could rival the best Relais & Chateaux properties. When they discovered a rugged, sun-drenched parcel on the eastern hillsides of Oakville — its volcanic, iron-rich soils unlike anything they had encountered — they recognized it as something rare. They decided to make it their home.
In 1986, that vision became a reality. Dalla Valle Vineyards was formally founded on just twenty acres of hillside, modest in size yet unique in character. And then, the following year — the same year their daughter Maya came into the world — Gustav and Naoko planted a five-acre block of Cabernet Sauvignon in her honor. Maya's Vineyard, as it would come to be known, has since become one of the most celebrated winegrowing sites in America.
Today, Dalla Valle Vineyards is guided by Naoko and Maya Dalla Valle, a mother-and-daughter partnership that carries forward everything that was quietly set in motion on those hillsides four decades ago. Working alongside Vineyard Manager Edgar Alfaro and a devoted team, they steward every vine, every vintage, with the meticulous care and singular purpose that the finest wines in the world demand — honoring the past, and tending carefully toward the future.
Named after the Italian word for "hill," Collina is rooted in hillside parcels that give Dalla Valle Vineyards its distinctive character. Drawn primarily from the estate's younger vines, it is a wine of freshness and vitality — one that welcomes you upon release and rewards those who choose to wait. Like all wines from this estate, it carries the promise of a long and graceful evolution.
Tasting Note: Offers a harmonious interplay of cool blue and black fruits—blueberry, blackberry bramble, and hints of wild cherry— wrapped in a supple yet persistent structure. Notes of bitter cocoa, cedar, and graphite evoke the character of our iron-rich, rocky soils, lending both gravitas and refinement.

The 2023 Collina Dalla Valle is fabulous. Aromatic, vibrant and punchy, the 2023 is an especially fine Collina. Crushed flowers, mint, red cherry/plum fruit, mocha, new leather and licorice flesh out in the glass. The 2023 has all the Dalla Valle signatures in a style that offers tons of immediacy and appeal. Floral overtones lift the finish. I would love to own this. Superb.

A blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Cabernet Franc, primarily from younger vines, the 2023 Collina Dalla Valle Red Wine is an excellent effort, boasting delicate floral nuances set against a core of red raspberries and framed by cedar and vanilla notes. It's medium- to full-bodied, supple and velvety in texture, perhaps a bit too open-knit for extended cellaring, but it's charming and accessible, with softly dusty tannins and hints of mocha on the finish.
