Champagne Jacquesson Description

Founded in 1798, Champagne Jacquesson, in Dizy, was acquired by the Pinault family in 2022. The property has Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards, in the Grande Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. Always innovative and keen to produce the best possible champagne every year, Jacquesson created the “700” cuvée in the early 2000s, which reflects both the character of a vintage and gives free expression to its prestigious terroirs.

In the 19th century, the House experienced a boom of growth. At the origin of this golden age was Adolphe Jacquesson, an inspired director and visionary inventor. In 1844, he revolutionized the champagne trade by patenting the “muselet”, the small wire still used today to hold the cork in place.

At the time, he also contributed to transforming champagne production techniques with the famous Jules Guyot. Under Adolphe Jacquesson’s leadership, a certain Johann Joseph Krug served as cellar master before founding the eponymous house.

744 is based on the 2016 vintage and disgorged January 2021.

Dosage 0.75 g/l

Wine Advocate: 94 Points

Disgorged in February 2021 with 0.75 grams per liter dosage, the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 744 is based on the 2016 vintage. Exhibiting complex aromas of orange oil, crisp stone fruit, fenugreek and subtle hints of yellow Chartreuse, it's medium to full-bodied, pillowy and seamless, with terrific depth at the core, lively acids and a pinpoint mousse. Simultaneously vivid but replete with sapid nuance, this new release throws into relief all the work the Jacquesson brothers have made in the vineyards and cellar over the last two decades.

Vinous: 91+ Points

The NV Cuvée No. 744 Grand Vin is a bright, taut Champagne that is going to need at least a few years to come together. This is one of the more reticent editions of the Cuvée I have tasted in a very long time. Citrus, crushed rocks and white flowers add an attractive upper register. The Chardonnay feels quite expressive today.

Disgorged: January, 2021.
