Bernard Levet Description
The “house cuvée” is a selected blend from all the parcels that the Levet family owns. Produced in the same manner as “La Chavaroche” and “Les Journaries,” this bottling tends to be the most open and immediately seductive of the three versions of Levet Côte-Rôtie. This easiness is relative, of course, for this bottling still impresses. Levet’s typical smoky and savage character is here counterpointed by an elegant, floral, and wild-berry fruit. 2015 marks the first vintage imported of this cuvée.
Vinous: 92-94 Points
Energetic black raspberry and cherry scents are complemented by hints of black pepper, smoky bacon and succulent flowers. Juicy, appealingly sweet, spice-tinged red and dark flavors show fine delineation and turn livelier with air. A zesty mineral element adds lift and nervy cut to the long, floral-driven finish, which is framed by smooth, slowly building tannins. 70% whole clusters.
Wine Spectator: 91-93 Points
Wine Advocate
Even this normally approachable cuvée is pretty darn tannic this vintage. Tasted just prior to bottling, Levet's 2019 Cote Rotie Amethyste features scents of crushed stone, asphalt, black olives and purple raspberries. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it finishes long, chewy and mouthwatering.
