Arista Winery Description
Arista Winery was founded by Al and Janis McWilliams in 2002 with a mission to craft artisanal, site-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. From the beginning, the McWilliams have firmly believed that the finest examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced in small lots. This belief has led to an emphasis on quality over quantity and a determination to discover and develop unique vineyard sites that reflect the distinct characteristics of the Russian River Valley. Arista is committed to sustainable farming practices. They work closely with local growers who share the dedication to sustainability in Arista carries out in their vineyards. Very little is done to manipulate the vineyard sites but instead strive to preserve each vineyard's natural qualities.
The Lucky Well vineyard sits atop a knoll on the western edge of the Sebastopol hills outside of the towns of Graton and Sebastopol. The vineyard is in an area often referred to as the “banana belt” of the Russian River Valley because, though on the very coolest, foggiest, and western edge of the appellation, it sits on a knoll that rises above the fog line. This feature exposes the fruit to more gentle sunlight, which allows very slow and even ripening across the entire growing season. Our 4-acre section was planted in 2008 to Pommard, Swan, and Calera clones of Pinot Noir.
Tasting Note: The 2022 Lucky Well Vineyard Pinot Noir is a luminous wine absolutely packed with vibrant flavors and aromas. As with all of the 2022s, the color of the Lucky Well is a mesmerizing jewel-like ruby red, transitioning to a violet rim. This year’s edition showcases the soaring aromatics capable of the Lucky Well site - Christmas spice, hard candy, turned earth, and dried flowers emanate from the glass, while Damson plum and tart raspberry flavors grace the palate.

From Calera and Swan clone vines, the 2022 Pinot Noir UV Lucky Well Vineyard is complex, pure and expressive. The nose is bursting with raspberry, pomegranate and grapefruit aromas, plus nuances of mossy bark, black tea, bitters and floral perfume. The medium-bodied palate features layered, dynamic flavors, a luxuriously silky texture, vibrant acidity and a hauntingly long finish.

The 2022 Pinot Noir UV - Lucky Well Vineyard is redolent of black cherry, plum, new leather, tobacco, incense and dried flowers. It offers lovely immediacy in a mid-weight, approachable style with good balance and no hard edges. Floral and savory overtones extend the finish nicely.
