History

Houston Wine Merchant is rooted in Houston’s fine wine community. We opened our doors as Wines of America in 1984, specializing in domestic wines exclusively. We became Houston Wine Merchant as we expanded to include a hand-chosen selection of wines from across the world. Our shelves house an unparalleled selection of wines representing each of the world’s vastly diverse wine growing regions and the myriad of styles and types of wines they produce. The store has been owned and operated by Scott Spencer for its entire 27 years in Houston.

Philosophy

Our business has been established and continues to grow on the premises of passion for great wines and a commitment to excellent service. We strive to share our love of wine with everyone that walks through our doors.  Houston Wine Merchant has been from it’s inception, and will continue to be, a service-first oriented business. We run our store like you would run a fine dining restaurant, and we offer free wine tasting twice a week, giving our loyal customers the chance to taste more than 500 new wines each year. Our store is a great place to meet the people who make wine and learn about the history and places that make them special. We seek to provide a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, while delivering a wine store experience that is above and beyond anything else our city has to offer.
