White Wines

Viña La Playa Block Section Chardonnay 2006

Viña La Playa was launched in 1989 as a joint venture between three veteran families of the wine industry, the Errázuriz and Sutil families of Chilean wine making fame and the Axelsons of import notoriety in California. The vineyards are set on the western shores of the Tiguiririca River within the Colcahgua Valley.

Creamy vanilla, mild spice and baked pear aromas follow through to a tangy, fruity medium-to-full body of ripe yellow apple, pear, and nectarine flavors with hint of rubber. Finishes with a long, crisp orange marmalade and delicate spice fade. A very pleasant sipper or table wine to serve with chicken dishes.

$12.99 per bottle

Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc 2006

Randy Mason has been making wine in Napa Valley for over 30 years. He spent many years as winemaker for Chapellet and went on to help start up The Napa Wine Company. In 1993 he and his wife Megan started Mason Cellars. Randy is considered a master of quintessential California Sauvignon Blanc. This gift inspired him to start a line of wine dedicated to that exclusively. Hence, Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc.

This inviting nose offers citrus and pineapple aromas that seductively linger. The palate is full, round and refreshing with notes of grapefruit and figs. This wine is creamy and rich while being crisp and complex. This is the perfect wine for spicy Asian or Indian fare, and gorgeous on its own as an apertif.

$11.99 per bottle

Turkey Flat Semillon/Marsanne 2005

Turkey Flat is the local name for the vineyard property and it is believed to have been named by the original settlers in the late 1840’s after the large flocks of native bush turkeys (Australian Bustard) in the area. German Settler Johann Fiedler planted vines on the property back in 1847. The Schulz family purchased the property shortly thereafter and have maintained the vines for over 100 years.

A 4th generation Schulz, Peter and his wife Christie have moved from exclusively growing grapes to winemaking. Here in the heart of Barossa, the two are producing world class, highly acclaimed wines from their ancient vines.

A blend of 60% Semillon and 40% Marsanne, the nose is floral and enticing with notes of honeysuckle, lime zest and minerals. The palate is rich and complex and reaffirms all that the bouquet promises.

Red Wines

Castillo de Monséran Garnacha 2005

Firmly planted in the heart of Aragon, the D.O. of Cariñena sits in the Ebro Valley between Barcelona and Madrid. This was the first Denominacion de Origen awarded within the region of Aragon in 1932.

The region has a history of wine making dating back to the Romans. In 1945, a group of 60 growers started a cooperative called Bodegas San Valero. Castillo de Monséran is one of four labels they produce. The cool Mountain climate allows for an intoxicating fruit display. This is a beautiful example of this classic Spanish varietal.

The nose is rich and ripe with enticing aromas of candied black cherries and sweet tobacco. The palate is lush and full offering flavors of black currants and spice with chewy tannins and a long finish.

$9.99 per bottle

Fattoria Bibbiani Chianti Classico 2004

Located just 20 km west of Firenze along the banks of the Arno and perched between the two communities of Capraia and Limite sits the Estate of Bibbiani. The Donato family has had this property for 150 years, but it’s history dates back 13 centuries.

Winemaker Fulvio Galgani uses vines up to 35 years old to make wines that are a true display of terroir and tradition. This classically styled Chianti is made from 75% Sangiovese and 25% Canaiola.

The nose is warm with aromas of cherry pie, orange peel and a hint of dried herbs. The palate is ripe with flavors of fresh red berries and cherries. The tannins are dusty and soft with a light acidity in the finish. This is the perfect dinner wine any night of the week.

$11.99 per bottle

Château Haut-Colombier Premières Côtes de Blaye 2005

This Chateau sits on the north bank of the Gironde in the Côtes de Blaye. The Chéty family has owned and operated the estate since 1803. For the past 37 years Jean and Danielle Chéty have been at the helm. These days, they are joined by their children; Emmanuel as winemaker, Olivier helps as vineyard manager and marketing assistant while daughter Veronique runs a store and tasting room.

This is an amazing example of the quality and value of the 2005 vintage in Bordeaux. The wine is made with 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The nose boasts black cherries and Kirsch. The palate is full with pronounced tannins and hints of chocolate and blackberries. This is a Bordeaux to enjoy now!
