White Wines

Schlumberger Pinot Blanc Les Princes Abbés Alsace 2004

Domaine Schlumberger has the largest vineyard holdings of anyone in Alsace. However, it is still family run and purchases absolutely no juice, grapes or unfinished wine from anyone. The family owns roughly 120 hectares of land, 50 of which are Grand Cru. The steep hillsides make it necessary for animals to tend the land as opposed to machinery. The harvest is manually done and the benefits of their practice is evident in the wine.

The nose of this Pinot Blanc is fresh and minerally with a touch of oleander, mandarins and macadamia nuts. The palate is fleshy and rich with crisp acidity. A perfect varietal display of this classic Alsatian wine.

$11.99 per bottle

Holy Cow Chardonnay Walla Walla 2006

Located just at the base of the Blue Mountains in Columbia Valley, K Winery is putting out some amazing wines. The winery itslf, sits on a property that was homesteaded in 1853, with an adjacent farmhouse (still standing), built in 1872. Classic Americana.

For this wine in particular, winemaker Charles Smith sources from three different high altitude vineyards. This Chardonnay is best described as varietally true. The aromas are of Golden Delicious apples, Anjou pear and citrus rind and shine through with the slightest hint of brown butter. On the palate, this is a light and fresh Chardonnay reminiscent of a Mâcon Villages. Pure and simple.

$12.99 per bottle

Royal Tokaji Dry Furmint 2005

Furmint is the noble varietal that gives us Tokaji Aszu from Hungary( tooth-achingly sweet, dessert wines of incredible richness). The bracing acidity and ripening ability of the grape allow it to make delicious dry wines as well.

The wine has an intoxicating nose of apricots, green apples and lavender honey with just a hint of toast.  The flavors wander on the palate, and are robust. Lemon rind, walnuts and soft minerality are held in line with a backbone of minerality and acidity that will stay. This is a gorgeous full white, when heavily oaked wines aren’t called for. This is a wine to be savored and enjoyed all year long.

$14.99 per bottle

Red Wines

Domaine de Fenouillet Vin de Pays de Vaucluse 2006

The Domaine is situated in the villages of Beaumes de Venise at the foot of the “Dentelles de Montmirail”(the lace of the the Montmirail mountains) in the southern Rhone. Up until 1989 the Soard family had sold their grapes to the local growers cooperative. Since then, brothers Vincent and Patrick have taken over the Domaine and began to vinify and bottle their own wine.

This wine is made of predominantly Marselan. The varietal is a cross of Cabernet and Grenache, introduced at Domaine de Cazes and first bottled by Devereux in 2002. This wine is fresh and young with deep spicy notes. The nose is rich with black plums and blackberries. The palate is juice and enticing with flavors of baked plums, blueberry jam and soft spicy notes. This little gem is perfect any night of the week.

$11.99 per bottle

Trivento Syrah Reserve Mendoza 2005

The winery was founded in 1996 by the famed Concha Y Toro house. Set just north of the Mendoza river, the vineyards have the benefit of high altitude along with sunny days and cool dry nights. The perfect setting for syrah.

The nose is explosive with aromas of crème de cassis, violets, and blackberries. The palate is full with supple tannins. Flavors of crushed blueberries, black plums and coffee linger on, with the the slightest hint of licorice root.

$11.99 per bottle

Estate Baccala Cabernet Napa 2005

Born and raised in the Napa Valley, William Baccala seems to have an innate sense for sourcing the best fruit. Having dabbled in the wine industry for many years, he started bottling his own wines under the Estate Baccala label in the late ‘90s.
The 2005 Cabernet is a delicious example of the bounties of Napa fruit. The nose is rich with aromas of blackberries, baked black plums and soft hints of anise. The palate is rich and elegant. Flavors of blackberry jam, and black currants set off against ripe silky tannins come together in a lingering smooth finish. This is the perfect Cabernet for those who like a bold, smooth wine for weeknight fare.

$15.99 per bottle
