Wines
La Vielle Ferme Côtes de Luberon 2005
Château Beaucastel enjoys an almost legendary reputation as one of the great estates in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is
owned by the Perrin family, who recently set their sights on expanding their portfolio of wines from the Southern Rhône. Their intent is to make small, specialized wines that have a real identity from each part of the region. The Vieille Ferme wines are the culmination of this work.
La Vieille Ferme is a fruity, crisp, dry wine made from Rhône varietals: Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Ugni Blanc. To enhance complexity and roundness, 10% of the Grenache Blanc is fermented in small, new, Limousin oak barrels. The wine has a lovely floral bouquet, hinting of spice, with fresh, lemony fruit, and a crisp finish.

Lo Brujo Macabeo 2005
Calatayud is an ancient region in northeastern Spain formerly called Aragon. In 1990, it received its Denomination de Origin (D.O.) status, but Calatayud has been producing bold reds and lively whites for over 2000 years! It is thought that the vine was brought to this part of Spain by the Romans, possibly while on pilgrimage to Santiago de Campostella (Tomb of St. Joseph).
The soil type in this region is made up of mostly brown limestone and loam with layers of slate over gypsum. While Calatayud has a continental climate, the vineyards are distributed in what could only be characterized as arid. This contributes to well drained vineyards, disease free vines, and wine that is intense and flavorful.
The Lo Brujo Macabeo is crisp and playful, with emerging flavors of tropical fruit and citrus. Fresh and well balanced, it is made from 100% Macabeo grapes grown high in the mountains on 30 year old bush vines. Made in the typical Spanish style of white wines with no barrel aging, it is an ideal accompaniment to seafood and light meat dishes.

Newhaven Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Newhaven is a classic example of Sauvignon Blanc from the world-renowned Marlborough winegrowing region of New Zealand. Within Marlborough, grapes for the Newhaven Sauvignon Blanc are sourced primarily from the bucolic Wairau Valley, with a smaller percentage coming from Awatere Valley, closer to the coast.
Both areas have stony, sandy loam topsoils that overlay layers of free-draining “pea-gravel” soils - conditions which reduce vine vigor and yield lush, aromatic wines.
The Newhaven 2006 Sauvignon Blanc shows an intense, forward nose with guava, grapefruit zest and honeysuckle aromas. It is a shining example of classic New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with just the right balance of grassy, floral, and fruity notes in the nose. The lush flavors carry over into the mouth and are well balanced by a pleasantly crisp acidity.

Luna Beberide Bierzo 2005
Bierzo is possibly the trendiest wine region in Spain today, and the Mencia grape is the star of the show. Mencia was described by Robert Parker as “Pinot Noir on steroids", and this version certainly proves why. It has delicious red and black fruit flavors and loads of the graphite terroir that makes Bierzo wines so special. It was fermented using wild yeast, aged completely in stainless steel vats to preserve its fruit-forward character, and bottled unfiltered.
Bierzo is grown in the extreme northwest region of Castilla y León, bordering Galicia. Bodegas Luna Beberide is a family-run estate founded in 1987. Alejandro Luna (age 28) is the owner and Gregory Perez (age 26) is the enologist. Alejandro has been working on his family’s estate for most of his life, while Gregory studied viticulture at the University of Blanquefort in Bordeaux and worked for 2 years at Chateau Cos D’Estournel prior to coming to Luna Beberide. With the assistance of the famed Mariano Garcia, who serves as consultant, the estate seeks above all to produce wines of the highest quality.

Calvet-Thunevin Cuvée Constance 2004
This young project is the brainchild of Jean-Luc Thunevin and Jean-Roger Calvet and is limited to only a few hectares of old vines planted on black schist (no dirt is present on the surface). Jean-Luc Thunevin made his mark on the wine world with (what is now) the cult wine Château Valandraud in Bordeaux. Valandraud is recognized as one of the first ‘garage’ wines of Bordeaux. In 2001, he teamed up with Jean-Roger Calvet, a local winemaker who was doing great work with Carignan and Grenache, to produce their first vintage.
A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Carignan. The wine is aged in concrete vats and then is bottles unfined and unfiltered. It boasts tremendous aromas of crème de cassis, black cherry, licorice and roasted meat with Provençal spices. Superb and full bodied with no hard edges resulting in a savory, mouth filling wine.

Slipstream Shiraz / Grenache 2005
This wine is a real team effort from some of the hottest young winemakers in Australia. Ben Riggs from Mr. Riggs and Woop Woop made one component of the Shiraz from a low altitude location while Reid Bosward from Kaesler made Shiraz from a higher altitude locale. Stephen Pannell made the Grenache from a 70-year old vineyard and composed the final blend.
“Sexy and flamboyant… A fabulous value, it offers gorgeous notes of raspberries, licorice, garrigue, and sweet cherries. This elegant, medium-bodied wine exhibits loads of fruit, character, and personality. It should drink well for 5-6 years.” Robert Parker 90 points.
A perfect match with all your grilled foods and cheeses.
