White
Wines
Yalumba
Y Series Unwooded Chardonnay 2005
Yalumba
wines have a style all of their own and each have
been influenced by a diverse range of elements.
Elements Yalumba likes to call ‘the controllables,’
such as the Yalumba Vine Nursery and on-site cooperage,
as well as other factors that cannot be emulated
by any other winery.
The
Yalumba Y Series of varietal wines express the
lively personality and colorful 150-year history
of the Hill Smith family of Yalumba, Australia's
oldest family owned winery.
This
wine is a bright golden straw with vibrant green
hues. The nose shows lifted tropical aromas including
pineapple and paw-paw with musk, melon and citrus
zest. Flavors of rich melon and peach are accompanied
by a creamy texture which finishes with a refreshing
tang.

Mason
Cellars “Pomelo” Sauvignon Blanc 2005
Founded
in 1993, Mason Cellars is family owned and operated
by winemaker Randy Mason and his wife, Megan,
in Oakville, California. With 20 years of winemaking
and vineyard management for other distinguished
Napa Valley wineries such as Chappallet and Lakespring,
they decided to launch their own wine label. Their
vision is to create high quality wine that is
consumer friendly, ready to drink, and available
at a fair market price.
Randy
Mason considers his style to be “California”
unique. By using the same vines year after year
a distinct characteristic for each grape is achieved
allowing the wines to be true to their varietal.
Producing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon
Blanc, Mason Cellars has been able to concentrate
their efforts on a few different types of wine.
The
“Pomelo” Sauvignon Blanc sources grapes
from the Kelseyville Vineyards in Lake County.
Named after the ancestrial fruit of the grapefruit, this
wine is full of zingy lemon-lime acidity with
remnants of sweetness. Citrus and tree fruit aromas
on the nose with a great body and texture for
the palate. The flavors in the wine will allow
it to be paired well with chicken and seafood
dishes. Try scampi or piccata!

Nessa
Albariño D.O. Rias Baixas 2005
Adegas
Gran Vinum is a small, family-owned winery.
It opened in its current form only in 2002,
and uses only the most modern growing and production
techniques. However, it was founded on land
owned and lovingly
cultivated by the owner’s grandparents
so that the winery is able to work with old
traditions to balance out the modern
methods. The winery is located in Galicia, in
northwest Spain, right on the border with Portugal
and on the Atlantic
Ocean.
This
Albariño is displays fresh orange and
lime citrus with a lively fruity structure.
The palate is balanced and has a distinctive
appetizing finish. Should be perfect with fish
or chicken with plenty of citrus fruits or glaze.
Produced
from a combination of young estate-grown vines
and purchased fruit, fermented in stainless
steel, and aged on its lees for only a few weeks,
the wine provides a crisp, refreshing flavor
with an easy drinking profile.

Red Wines
De
Lozar Ribera del Duero 2004
In
a region with hot days and cool nights, where
the random limestone outcroppings and unpredictable
grape
production (due to inconsistent soil compositions)
can cause parts of the vineyard to grow while
others lay in wait,
De Lozar Winery has been able to find a way
to express the complexity of the Tempranillo
grape and showcase the high
altitude – dry climate characteristics
of the Ribera del Duero, Spain.
Surrounding
the Duero river, the Ribera del Duero is situated
on a plateau, with a continental climate ideal
for vine growing. Due to the efforts of pioneers
such as Alejandro Fernandez of Pesquera de Duero,
the old cereal and sugar beet crops have laid
waste to some of the best vineyards in the world.
The
2004 De Lozar is full of structure and balance.
Full of juicy flavors of blueberry, licorice,
cassis, spice box, and rich tobacco followed
by a smooth finish. Superb texture, this wine
begins to get bigger as you allow it to breathe.

Mommessin
Bourgogne 2004
In
1865, Jean-Marie Mommessin founded the wine
making firm that bears his name in Burgundy.
The region of Burgundy or “La Bourgogne”
grew famous under the rule of the Dukes of Burgundy
and the wine expertise of the monasteries attached
to the great church of Cluny. This Bourgogne
rouge comes from three complementary terroirs
in Burgundy stretching south from the town of
Dijon to the town of Chalon-sur-Saône.
The
wine is deep ruby red in color with spicy cherry,
raspberry and earthy aromas. On the palate the
wine shows cherry, spicy red fruit flavors with
an excellent oak spice note. Good body and structure
along with soft tannins lead to a long, smooth
finish. This wine can be drunk now but can also
be aged 3 to 5 years. An elegant companion to
game, poultry, red or white meats and soft cheeses.
